Mets 3B David Wright will join the club in San Francisco as they start a series with the Giants. But he hasn't been cleared to play just yet.

Why? Manager Mickey Callaway told reporters on Friday that there is a "different medical threshold required to play in MLB games versus minor league games," according to MLB.com's Anthony DiComo.

Wright completed his rehab assignment with Triple-A Las Vegas on Wednesday, and as SNY's Andy Martino pointed out, the Mets had to make a move on him as the 20 days for the assignment were up. MLB rules state that a team must reinstate that injured player, or he has to have a new injury after the time span is up.

The Mets could be waiting for Wright to return home on Sept. 7 to play his first game in the blue and orange since 2016. However, Callaway's comments would suggest that the Mets don't deem him ready to face MLB competition.

Wright wants to be back on the field playing for the Mets more than anything, especially after the dedication he has given to getting healthy again. There is also some family motivation with his two daughters not seeing him in a Mets uniform yet.

"The perserverance and the work that I've put in over the last two year, it would mean the world to me to be able to suit up," Wright told DiComo. "I've got two young daughters that have never seen me play, so it would mean a lot to me to have them there."

Wright went 0-for-5 on Wednesday in his final game with Las Vegas. He noted that he is still working on his timing at the plate. He totaled just one RBI single over nine at-bats with the 51s in two games.
