The Mets "continue to hunt a righty reliever, but keep being underwhelmed by options such as Milwaukee’s Francisco Rodriguez and Houston’s Brandon Lyon," writes Joel Sherman of the New York Post.

The Mets have also shown interest in RHP Matt Capps, according to Sherman.

In addition, Sherman says the Mets have made acquiring Ramon Hernandez their priority to be their backup catcher, with Kurt Suzuki, Miguel Olivo and Kelly Shoppach serving as potential fall-back options.

However, in regards to Suzuki, Sherman says his declining numbers, the $7.1 million commitment through next season and his 2014 buyout are "hindrances" for the Mets.

[avatar name="baron"]Michael Baron: The team's bullpen problems have been chronicled, experienced, and exhausted at this point. It all came to a head yesterday in what was a complete meltdown in the eighth inning. I don't think guys like K-Rod, Lyon, Capps, or even Street are saviors - the team ultimately needs it's current members to improve and be consistent, top-to-bottom. But even one of the guys Sherman mentioned would serve as a different look and feel to a bullpen which cannot produce consistently reliable options day in and day out. It would also show the front office has the flexibility they constantly speak about and are both committed to and believe in this current group.
