Now Commenting On:

Assistant GM John Ricco said the team could still sign additional starting pitching depth (Rubin, Jan. 20), even though they recently signed LHP John Lannan to a minor-league contract.

Lannan is reportedly healthy, but he is coming off knee surgery  that cut short his 2013 season. That - along with concerns about Jenrry Mejia's health - make it somewhat necessary to bring more options to camp. Minor leaguer pitchers Jacob deGrom and Rafael Montero will be considered, but it seems more likely they will start the season at Triple-A Las Vegas with a promotion waiting until mid-season.
