In their place, they have added LHP Josh Edgin, OF Collin Cowgill and 1B Josh Satin, the team announced.
5:32 pm: "At some point you just have to say to yourself this is not in his best interest," Sandy Alderson said about Davis, according to SNY's Matt Dunn. "I was one of his biggest supporters. But, I just felt - at some point - we've got to get him out of here. Hopefully, he'll be back in a short period of time. ... He needs to be able to work on his swing without worrying necessarily about the outcome. We think it's in his best interest."
Alderson also said the players are accountable for the team's poor performance, not the manager or the coaching staff.

5:32 pm: Good. This team is a joke, and something most definitely needs to be done, even if it's a major roster purge like this. They cannot continue to hit, pitch and field so poorly.
It's been a long time coming for Ike Davis. The organization wanted to remain patient, and I think they were more than accommodating when affording him time to work his problems out at the big league level. It got to a point where nothing was working, and he was killing the offense day-after-day. What's worse, it was impacting his defense. I am rooting for Ike -- as I always have -- for him to get his act together and be the player we think he can be. Hopefully he clears his head, hits the reset button, and gets his career on track.
They now need a first baseman. I wonder if they'll consider moving Lucas Duda to first base for now and promoting an outfielder from the minor leagues. The 40-man roster does stand at 39 right now, so there is room to add someone like Josh Satin (who isn't currently on the 40-man roster). They could go with Justin Turner on a full-time basis, as well. Alternatively, they could consider moving Daniel Murphy to first base and promoting Wilmer Flores, although they hadn't been previously inclined to promote Flores until after the trade deadline. But, things have changed, doing this would certainly keep them from having to make a 40-man roster move, and it would allow the Mets to see what they have in Flores going forward, something they need to do as they head into trading season.
As for Carson, he doesn't belong in the big leagues right now. He has the raw stuff to be successful, but it has yet to come together for him. In the end, his presence was hurting because he was ineffective, forcing Terry Collins to lean way too hard on Scott Rice. I expect Josh Edgin will replace Carson, but Jack Leathersich is tearing up the Eastern League with the B-Mets, so stay tuned for that...
Lastly, Baxter is a nice story, but he has hardly played in an unstable outfield. When he has -- like today -- he failed to get a bunt down in a crucial situation and hasn't produced. He has two hits in his last 30 or so at-bats, and the Mets simply need a stronger presence off the bench. But, I'm not sure they have such an option in their minor leagues right now.
