The Mets have designated C Jose Lobaton for assignment, sent LHP Buddy Baumann to Triple-A Las Vegas and recalled C Tomas Nido and RHP Chris Flexen.
Lobaton struggled at the plate with the Mets, going 7-46 (.152) with no home runs and 3 RBI. Nido hasn't been much better: he has gone 5-37 (.135) with no home runs and 1 RBI.
Since being acquired from the Reds, Devin Mesoraco has assumed starting catcher duties for the Mets. In six games with the team, Mesoraco is 3-18 (.167) with 2 HR and 3 RBI.
"We wanted to see Nido again," Mickey Callaway said before the Mets game Saturday night. "There are some others we think would help getting Nido up here at this point to help further his development."
Callaway also says that C Kevin Plawecki should be back in the next ten days.
Baumann has made two unsuccessful appearances with the Mets in 2018, allowing 5 runs over 2.1 IP. Flexen has yet to make a big league appearance in 2018, but had a 7.88 ERA with the team last season over 48.0 IP with 36 K and 35 BB.
Weather permitting, the Mets will take on the Diamondbacks on Saturday night at 7:10 p.m. at Citi Field.
