Now Commenting On:

The Mets begin a three-game series Friday night against the Giants in San Francisco.

They lost all three games against the Chicago Cubs, prior to which they won four of five in Philadelphia against the Phillies.

“Things just didn’t click for us," David Wright said about Wrigley Field. "They played better than us in pretty much every area of the game. We didn’t play well at all.”

The Cubs have the worst record in the National League.

“They’re trying to beat you just as much as you’re trying to beat them," Terry Collins said after Thursday's loss, dismissing Chicago's record. "Once in a while they play good, you don’t play good, and you’re going to get your butt kicked."

Wright said playing 14-, 14- and 11-inning games consecutively in Philadelphia was no valid excuse. Nor is being deep in a stretch of 20 games in 20 days.

The Giants are 39-21 and will send Matt Cain, Tim Hudson and Tim Lincecum to the mound against the Mets.
