The Mets aren't placing Robinson Cano on the Injured List, at least not yet anyway.
Speaking before Friday's contest with the Colorado Rockies, Mets skipper Mickey Callaway said that Cano will not be placed on the IL on Friday, and that hopefully Cano will even be able to come off the bench late in the game if needed.
Callaway told reporters that Cano performed well in a pregame workout, leading to optimism that he could be available late in Friday's game.
The Mets' second baseman came off of the Injured List earlier this week, but he was pulled from Wednesday's game against the Giants after limping on the way to first. Cano said after the game that he felt tightness in his left quad, the same quad that landed him on the 10-day Injured List on May 22nd.
Cano is hitting just .238 with an on-base percentage of just .284 in his first season with the Mets. Cano's typical power numbers have not been there either, as he's hit just three homers for the Mets this season.
