Jeremy Hefner will rejoin the rotation on Sunday - he is 2-3 with a 5.13 ERA in six starts for the Mets this season.
However, while R.A. Dickey will not be used on short rest at any point, he will continue to pitch every fifth day.
Terry Collins recently suggested the purpose for going to a six-man rotation was to afford Johan Santana and Chris Young extra rest as needed. There's no question they will be getting that extra rest under this plan. At the same time, this will afford Dickey a fair opportunity at getting to 20 wins this season and a fair shake at the Cy Young Award, should he continue to pitch as well as he has to this point.
Collins also said recently he doesn't want any of his pitchers going with more than five days rest. So it's going to be interesting how he maneuvers the rotation going forward in order to avoid that, especially as they try to develop Matt Harvey at the Major League level.
