The Mets will hire Tom Slater to be their new assistant hitting coach, according to Marc Carig of Newsday.
Slater comes from years of minor league managing and coaching experience in the Yankees organization.
The Mets appear to have filled their coaching vacanies ahead of the 2018 season. The staff includes several new names under new manager Mickey Callaway.
According to reports, Gary DiScarcina will be bench coach, Dave Eiland will be pitching coach, Ricky Bones will be the bullpen coach, Pat Roessler will be the hitting coach, Ruben Amaro, Jr. will be the first base coach, and Glenn Sherlock will be the third base coach.
Roessler had been the team's assistant hitting coach under Kevin Long, who left the Mets this offseason to be hitting coach for former student Daniel Murphy and the Nationals.
