The Royals will look to trade center fielder Lorenzo Cain, 1B Eric Hosmer and 3B Mike Moustakas this summer if they're not contending for a playoff spot, the team's GM, Dayton Moore, told the NY Post's Joel Sherman this past weekend.
Similarly, the White Sox are likely to move 3B Todd Frazier and closer David Robertson - and possibly 1B Jose Abreu - their GM, Rick Hahn, told Sherman in a separate article for the Post.
"The long term is where the priority of the front office is right now," Hahn explained.

Unlike Hahn, Moore's current priority is to get his roster back to a World Series, which he believes they have the talent to do in 2017. However, he told Sherman, "We would have to consider [a fire sale] if things do not go right."
The Mets looked in to trading for a center fielder this past winter, but - at the time - were not interested in a one-year rental, such as Cain, sources told FoxSports.com's Ken Rosenthal.
The Royals and Mets - and White Sox and Mets - are a terrific fit, assuming the two teams are in a position to make a deal this summer. The Mets have a top 10 - maybe even a top 5 - farm system with a lot of young pitchers and position players. Meanwhile, the Royals and White Sox both have a variety of first basemen, third basemen, outfielders and relievers to deal, some of whom intrigued Sandy Alderson this past winter.
Alderson's staff and Moore's staff - and Hahn's staff - talked on and off this past winter about a lot of the same players mentioned above. And in the case of Kansas City, the two organizations have scouted one another quite a bit during the last 18 months. So, if the situation presents itself, they should all be in good position to resume trade talks this summer.

This past winter, specifically in talks for closer Wade Davis, the Royals reportedly asked about Alderson's elite SS prospect Amed Rosario, Steven Matz and Michael Conforto - as did the White Sox. However, in return for Frazier, Cain, Robertson, Hosmer and Moustakas, the cost should be less in July because they'll all have less than one year left on their deals.
For now, Alderson will continue to hope Curtis Granderson and Juan Lagares can be his two-headed center fielder, he'll hope Lucas Duda remains healthy and powerful and he'll hope David Wright, Jose Reyes and Wilmer Flores can hold down third base. But, if hope runs out at any of these positions, I agree with Sherman, Alderson first call should be to Moore...
