Good news came the Mets' way on Thursday following Jed Lowrie's MRI in New York.

Dealing with soreness in the back of his left knee, Lowrie made the trek north to see if there was anything concerning. Luckily, the MRI showed no structural damage, Mets GM Brodie Van Wagenen said on WCBS 880. Van Wagenen added that the team will be cautious with Lowrie, and will "bring him along slowly."

Lowrie, whom the Mets signed to a two-year, $20 million contract, hasn't been participating in all activities.

"We need to figure out what's going on first before we start worrying about how concerned (we are)" Lowrie said.

Lowrie said he first felt the soreness while running and it bothered him doing "high-explosive" activities. He did take live batting practice for the third straight day Wednesday, he said.

The 34-year-old said he's never felt anything like this before. The pain has been constant, though it hasn't intensified since he initially felt it.

"Our goal for Jed is to get him ready for the start of the season," Callaway said. "So at this point we're gonna take care of him and make sure that he's in a good spot moving forward."

Lowrie was an All-Star for the first time last season when he set career-highs with 23 home runs and 99 RBI. He figures to see most of his time at third base, though he'll play some second base and possibly shortstop as he, Todd Frazier, Robinson Cano and Amed Rosario get the bulk of the playing time on the infield.
