New York City should expect some hardware to arrive in the next few months, as both Mets pitcher Jacob deGrom and Yankees new ace Gerrit Cole are the favorites to bring home the Cy Young awards in their respective leagues this season.
William Hill sportsbook has both deGrom and Cole as 3/1 favorites to win the award in 2020.
"DeGrom has won two Cy Youngs in a row and is in his prime, and Cole is coming off of one of the greatest pitching years of all time," said Nick Bogdanovich, William Hill's director of trading, according to The Post.
DeGrom is looking to become just the third pitcher in MLB history to win the award three seasons in a row -- following in the footsteps of Greg Maddox and Randy Johnson, who both won the award four times in a row.
The reigning two-time Cy Young award winner is also the favorite at 5/2 to have the lowest ERA in baseball, and is tied for third at 11/2 to finish with the most strikeouts.
As for Cole, he enters 2020 as the runner-up for last season's AL Cy Young award after putting together one of the greatest pitching seasons of all time -- albeit a bit too late into the season to get past his former teammate Justin Verlander for the award.
With a fresh nine-year, $324 million contract signed in the offseason with the Yankees, Cole is expected to lead this team to the World Series, a place they haven't been since 2009.
Cole leads the odds for strikeouts in 2020 at 3/1, and sits just behind deGrom for the lowest ERA at 7/1.
Other New York pitchers to make the Cy Young odds list included the Mets' Noah Syndergaard (20/1), Marcus Stroman (75/1), Rick Porcello (100/1) and Steven Matz (150/1), and the Yankees' Luis Severino (18/1) -- before his Tommy John surgery was announced -- Masahiro Tanaka (50/1), Aroldis Chapman (50/1) and J.A. Happ (250/1).
