Jay Bruce collected three hits and played nine innings in right field for Single-A St. Lucie in a rehab game on Tuesday.
Bruce, who hit fourth behind David Wright, doubled in the second inning and came around to score, singled in the fourth and sixth and popped out in the seventh.
Bruce is expected to get playing time at first base upon his return to the major league team.
The 31-year-old has been out since June with a strained right hip during what has been an injury-plagued season for the veteran. Bruce originally landed on the 10-day DL in June due to a butt/back issue and plantar fascitis in his left foot.
Bruce has a .212/.292/.321 slash line with three homers and 17 RBi in 62 games this season, which has been his worst since 2008.
