Jay Bruce went 0-for-2 with a walk for Single-A St. Lucie on Tuesday in his first rehab game.
Bruce, who started in right field and played five innings, struck out and flied out. He is expected to see playing time at first base and is currently scheduled to play there on Wednesday, according to Anthony DiComo of MLB.com. At that point, he will alternate between right field and first base.
Bruce is also expected to get playing time at first base upon his return to the major league team.
The 31-year-old has been out since June with a strained right hip during what has been an injury-plagued season for the veteran. Bruce originally landed on the 10-day DL in June due to a butt/back issue and plantar fascitis in his left foot.
Bruce has a .212/.292/.321 slash line with three homers and 17 RBi in 62 games this season, which has been his worst since 2008.
