Mets infielder/outfielder Jeff McNeil, like many of his teammates, has been in Florida during the coronavirus shutdown.
On SiriusXM's MLB Network Radio channel with hosts Steve Phillips and C.J. Nitkowski on Thursday, McNeil talked about how the team will deal with Noah Syndergaard's injury, what to expect from new manager Luis Rojas, and more.
"Brodie (Van Wagenen) did a good job with (getting) some extra guys with (Rick) Porcello and (Michael) Wacha this offseason," McNeil said about the absence of Syndergaard. "Even though he was supposed to help us a lot, be a key part of the rotation, we've got some guys that can fill in and can get the job done for us."
When it comes to Rojas, McNeil is expecting things to be smooth.
"Everyone was super excited for the hire," he said. "We all love Luis, he's been in the organization a long time -- spent 14 years in the organization. Just about everybody that's gone through our system has played for him at some time. Guys like playing for him. I think he was the best guy for the job in the situation we were in. ... Everyone gets along well with him. He brings good energy to the park every single day. Everyone was looking forward to playing for him."
McNeil also talked about his current neighbor, Brandon Nimmo, and how he enjoys seeing his smiling face from time-to-time -- something he brought up last week on SNY's The Cookie Club presented by Insomnia Cookies.
"I've just been doing garage workouts with (Brandon) Nimmo," McNeil told SNY last week. "Been going over to his house. He's got a little setup, so that's all I've really been doing."
