A day after Sandy Alderson took a leave of absence that will likely be the end of his Mets tenure, interim GM John Ricco shed light on what the plan will be at the trade deadline -- and how he and fellow interim general managers J.P. Ricciardi and Omar Minaya will execute it.
"They've asked us to take a step back and maybe think outside the box a little bit," Ricco said, adding that "It truly will be all three of us kind of working at it together."
The Mets will "look to be active" at the trade deadline, he added, expalining that -- depending on who has the relationship with a certain club -- the three interim general managers will take turns leading potential trade negotiations.

As was the case on Tuesday when Jeff Wilpon announced the changes along with Alderson, Ricco said there wouldn't be one point person any of the three interims reports back to. As SNY's Andy Martino wrote earlier Wednesday, they will each work on specific things and then try to reach a consensus.
Regarding the difficulty of three people reaching a consensus, Ricco said they should be able to reach one "in most cases."
The Mets are expected to make most players available in advance of the July 31 non-waiver trade deadline, with pending free agents such as Jeurys Familia expected to be on the move. The enormous decision will be whether to trade Jacob deGrom, Noah Syndergaard, or both of them. The Mets have just over a month left to decide.
