Steven Matz's return from the DL didn't go to plan.
Matz was shelled for his second straight start, as the Mets' southpaw was unable to last more than two innings against the Phillies. In his last start, Matz couldn't escape the first inning before heading to the DL.
On Thursday night, Matz allowed six runs (four earned) in two innings with a walk and two strikeouts.
After the Mets gave Matz a two-run lead heading into the bottom of the first, Matz gave the runs right back on a three-run home run to Rhys Hoskins.
Scott Kingery knocked a leadoff home run to kick off the second inning before two more runs would come around to score. Matz finished the inning but wouldn't return for the third.
Matz's ERA now sits at 4.60. Two starts ago, it was 3.79.
