Now Commenting On:

The Mets are considering promoting outfielder Matt den Dekker, who is currently second in the Pacific Coast League in batting with a .329 average (ESPN, Aug. 2).

Den Dekker played in 17 games in an early season stint with the Mets and had seven hits in 45 at bats for a .145 average and 13 strikeouts. He was demoted to Las Vegas on June 18. Den Dekker has a .399 on base percentage to go with his average. He has seven home runs and 44 RBIs.

“He’s been hitting the ball good. Collins told reporters.  “The one thing about Matt, as well all know, he’s done it at every level he’s been to. The second year he goes to a level, he swings great. The one thing we’ve got to do is keep the contact consistent.”

The Mets would have to make a move on the roster if it is done before roster expand on Sept. 1.
