Harvey has thrown off a mound three times since having surgery.
He again told reporters last week that he still hopes to pitch in a game this season. (Santucci, Aug. 5). However, while Alderson has repeatedly said Harvey is not likely to pitch in the big leagues, he could throw in the Arizona Fall League or the team's instructional league.
The team is also considering restricting Harvey to only bullpen sessions, while postponing game work until next spring.
Hefner, who had Tommy John surgery roughly two months before Harvey, injured his repaired ligament and may undergo surgery again.
"My sense is that Matt will at least take this into account, as we will," Alderson said. "My sense is he's reassessing."
