Now Commenting On:

Nido, the Mets' 8th round pick in the 2012 draft, had a disappointing 2013 season for Brooklyn. The Mets went overslot to sign him to a $250,000 bonus a year ago. I had him as my #29 Mets prospect entering this year before he hit .185/.218/.261 in 125 PA over 33 games for Brooklyn in the New York Penn League. Playing as a 19-year-old, he drew just four walks in 33 games, just 3%. On the plus side, his strikeout rate of 16% was solid. He's got some pop, but needs to develop his approach, as he talks about in the attached video.

Defensively, opponents were 53-for-60 running against him in 28 games behind the plate, a success rate of 88%. At just under two stolen bases a game, that's a lot of costly bases.

The Mets didn't draft a catcher in the first 10 rounds in 2013 so I suspect that Nido, who has some tools, will get his first crack at full-season ball in Savannah to open 2014.
