This weekend, Marquez said on Twitter that he will miss the rest of the season after suffering a major knee injury Saturday against West Virginia.
Last week, MetsBlog's Matthew Cerrone said Marquez had been recently considering whether to give up football to pursue baseball full team with the Mets.
"The word on Marquez is he’s super fast and very athletic, giving the organization hope he can man center field," Cerrone explained. "However, he needs to improve at the plate."
In just 30 at bats for Single-A Kingsport this past summer, the 19-year-old Marquez hit .267 with two extra base hits during his first professional season.
