The Mets have officially released Chris Young.

The team designated him for assignment on August 8.

Young hit .205 with a .283 OBP this season after signing a one-year, $7.25 million deal in the offseason.

“It caught me off guard,” he said when he was DFA'd. “I wasn’t expecting it. I understood the playing time has changed, I realized that.  I didn’t realize this was coming. The team has to do what is best for the team and I respect that.
