The Mets have received good news on ailing C Devin Mesoraco.
Mesoraco exited Monday's game against the Dodgers with a bulging disc in his back but since receiving an epideral, assistent general manager John Ricco is optimistic that Mesoraco will play again this season.
"It should give him some relief and he could be back as soon as a week from now," Mets assistant general manager John Ricco said. "That's positive news."
Mesoraco was acquired this season from the Reds in exchange for Matt Harvey. He has hit .211/.297/.381 with 9 HR and 26 RBI in 181 at-bats with the team.
Ricco said that if Mesoraco can't return, they'll look into adding another catcher.
"We'll monitor it over the next couple of days," Ricco said. "If it looks like Devin is going to be out longer than that, we might consider bringing someone else in."
The Mets have 22 games left in their season.
