Pete Alonso's spot in the 2019 Home Run Derby is officially set.
The full eight-man bracket was announced on Wednesday night, with Alonso serving as the two-seed in the tournament-style format. The seeding for the Derby is based on total home runs putting Alonso just three homers shy of Christian Yelich for the one-seed.
Here's the full bracket:
1. Christian Yelich (31 HR) vs 8. Vladimir Guerrero Jr. (8 HR)
2. Pete Alonso (28 HR) vs 7. Carlos Santana (18 HR)
3. Josh Bell (25 HR) vs 6. Ronald Acuna Jr. (20 HR)
4. Alex Bregman (22 HR) vs. 5. Joc Pederson (20 HR)
Alonso will be at a bit of a disadvantage in the first round, at least as far is the crowd is concerned. The rookie will face off with the hometown favorite in Santana, hitting in is home ballpark.
The Home Run Derby will take place next Monday, July 9, the night before the MLB All-Star Game.
