Brandon Nimmo has been placed on the 10-day DL (retroactive to Aug. 17) due to the bruised left index finger he suffered last Thursday when he tried to check his swing and was hit by a pitch.
Mets GM John Ricco said he expects Nimmo to return when eligible on Aug. 27.
Nimmo had initially been viewed as day-to-day, after he saw two hand specialists and the MRI on his left hand came back clean.
In Nimmo's absence, Dominic Smith -- who was the 26th man on the roster on Sunday -- will remain with the team.
Prior to the at-bat where he was injured, Nimmo had reached base in 10 consecutive plate appearances.
Nimmo, who had five hits last Wednesday night while reaching base six times, is hitting .263/.387/.503 with 15 homers, 21 doubles, eight triples, and eight stolen bases in 109 games this season.
