The Mets are expected to go outside the organization for their next GM, SNY's Andy Martino has reported, with that search starting in earnest in September.
According to Martino, the Mets will meet with a wide range of outside candidates, both young and seasoned, for the vacancy.
Although longtime executive John Ricco will be considered -- and many current and former employees are rooting for him to earn the job -- his case does not appear particularly strong. If that changes, it will only be after the team conducts a thorough search.
Along with Ricco, the Mets' baseball decisions since Sandy Alderson stepped down due to health-related issues have been handled by Omar Minaya and J.P. Ricciardi.
Martino reported last month that manager Mickey Callaway is almost certain to return next season, meaning any new GM would be inheriting him.
