Despite LHP Jon Niese having a down season with the Pittsburgh Pirates, the Mets have not ruled out bringing back the left-hander, reports Newsday's Marc Carig.
Carig reports that the Mets are still prioritizing bringing in an extra relief arm in the trade market, but will continue to look at starters as the non-waiver trade deadline nears.
Earlier Friday, Pirates general manager Neil Huntington expressed that he might have been better suited trading second baseman Neil Walker for prospects instead of Niese.
"In hindsight, maybe the two fringe prospects and trying to figure out where to re-allocate the money might have been a better return [for Walker]," Huntington told 93.7 The Fan. "That's where the results take us."
Niese, who was traded for Walker in the offseason, has a 5.49 ERA and 1.57 WHIP so far this season for the Pirates.
