Mets RHP Corey Oswalt allowed an unearned run on three hits in 2 2/3 innings during a spot start on Saturday afternoon at Fenway Park.
Oswalt, who was slotted back into the Mets' rotation for a doubleheader earlier in the week, allowed an RBI double to Xander Bogaerts, but was not charged with the run because Dominic Smith committed an error.
Oswalt struck out three batters and walked one while throwing 61 pitches.
"Oswalt's pitch count was climbing there through 2 and 2/3," said manager Mickey Callaway, who thought Oswalt was getting tired towards the end of his outing.
Still, Oswalt said he would have loved to continue pitching. "I just wanted to go as deep as I could for the team," he said. "I knew I was on a pitch count."
Prior to his most recent two outings, Oswalt had made four straight relief appearances for the Mets. The last time he pitched more than three innings was on Aug. 16 when he allowe four runs in six innings against the Phillies.
The 25-year-old Oswalt has a 6.31 ERA and 1.37 WHIP in 55 2/3 innings this season for the Mets.
