Mets assistant GM John Ricco said Tuesday that he would "fully anticipate" manager Mickey Callaway returning in 2019.
Ricco added that he's been impressed with how hard the Mets have played for Callaway during the second half with the team out of the playoff race.
SNY's Andy Martino reported on July 15 that Callaway was "almost certain" to return, according to major league sources.
Martino noted that Mets officials were well aware that Callaway has struggled during games and at news conferences, but Ricco noted Tuesday that Callaway had adjusted on the fly and improved during the season.
The team plans to begin interviewing external candidates for the GM vacancy in September -- with the team thinking outside the box.
In his rookie season as manager, Callaway has so far guided the Mets to a 73-83 record.
Under manager Terry Collins in 2017, the Mets finished 70-92.
