The Mets dispatched Ruben Amaro Jr., special assistant to the general manager Brodie Van Wagenen, to Phoenix to scout the Brewers/Diamondbacks game on Thursday, according to major league sources.

Milwaukee is interested in trading for Mets pitchers Zack Wheeler and Noah Syndergaard. The Mets are far more likely to trade Wheeler, but that will depend on how his shoulder injury impacts his value.

According to a source, Amaro's is "floating" around to various scouting assignments right now, which is standard pre-deadline activity. The Mets are doing legwork on various trade possibilities, including extensive scouting of Yankees prospects.
