Mets RHP Noah Syndergaard will bullpen session on Wednesday and will return to the starting rotation on Friday against the Nationals, manager Mickey Callaway said on Wednesday.
Syndergaard, who has been out since May 25 due to a finger injury, struck out seven batters in five innings in his first and only rehab start with Short-Season Brooklyn on Sunday. He allowed one run, two hits, and one walk, throwing 46 of 71 pitches for strikes. He reached 98 mph in the first inning and settled down after a rough first inning.
Syndergaard was originally supposed to return from his injury on June 10 against the New York Yankees, but was scratched right before the series began and has been out since.
The subject of trade rumors along with Jacob deGrom, Syndergaard said after his rehab start that he hasn't wasted much energy thinking about it.
