In the sixth inning, after Wilmer Flores failed to throw to third base to nab Dee Gordon advancing on a grounder, Justin Bour's sacrifice fly made it 3-0 Marlins.
Justin Bour's solo homer off Tyler Clippard in the eighth inning upped Miami's lead to 4-0, and Sean Gilmartin surrendered back-to-back two-out RBI hits in the ninth as the Marlins took a 6-0 lead.
Bartolo Colon allowed three runs on seven hits while walking one and striking out two in 5 2/3 innings.
The Mets got their leadoff batter on only once all game (in the eighth inning), and mustered just three hits against Marlins starter Adam Conley and three Marlins relievers.
Prior to Wednesday night, the last time the Mets were shut out was July 23.
