Matsuzaka was 3-3 with a 4.42 ERA and 1.241 WHIP with the Mets in seven starts in 2013.
He was 3-0 with a 1.37 ERA with a 0.8355 WHIP in his last four starts.
5:30 pm: Matsuzaka can earn $1.5 million if he makes the team (Sherman).
Matsuzaka showed at the end of last year he still had something to offer at the big league level. His improved tempo over his last four starts undoubtedly contributed to his success, but he also showed off very good breaking stuff as well.
Matsuzaka will join Jenrry Mejia and John Lannan in a competition for the last spot in the rotation, although I've heard a number of times this winter the team is hoping Mejia stays healthy and wins the job out of camp. That would turn Dice-K and Lannan as quality depth at Triple-A or possibly even the bullpen.
