Now Commenting On:

The Mets signed Eric Young Jr. to a one-year, $1.85 million deal (Sherman).

The Mets traded for the 28-year-old during the 2013 season, and he played 91 games for the Mets in 2013, hitting .251 with a .318 OBP. Young, 2013's NL stolen base leader,  had 38 steals with the Mets and eight with the Rockies.

EY Jr. will likely see time in center field next season, either starting, or spelling the young Juan Lagares. He could also see time at both corner positions or at second base, as need be.

Young made $490,000 in 2013 and was projected to make $1.9 million through arbitration (MLBTR).

The Mets have now inked Ruben Tejada, Ike Davis and Young, avoiding arbitration with them. Lucas Duda, Dillon Gee, Bobby Parnell and Daniel Murphy still need to come to terms before the Friday deadline. More info here.
