Now Commenting On:

The Mets are still looking to acquire a veteran relief pitcher, though it will likely be for a low-base salary, according to a source (Rubin, Jan. 30).

The Mets have shown recent interest in free-agent reliever Mitchell Boggs (Puma, Jan. 21), who had a 2.21 ERA and 58 strikeouts in 73 relief appearances for the Cardinals in 2012. He struggled to start 2013, was demoted, traded to the Rockies and later non-tendered.

Sandy Alderson said a few weeks ago that he was still looking to add a veteran bullpen arm, whether as a free agent or by trade, before the end of the offseason (Rubin, Jan. 7).

The Mets were first linked to Boggs in early December (Sherman, Dec. 9), they had also been connected to RHP Alfredo Aceves (Cafardo, Nov. 13), John Axford (Duquette, Dec. 11) and Chris Perez (Rubin, Dec. 9), all of whom inked deals with other teams.
