On Tuesday at Citi Field, Alderson said two or three teams are potential trade partners for a shortstop, but it's becoming more and more likely every day that the position may go to Ruben Tejada (Rubin, Dec. 17).
We've improved the team at other positions," Alderson explained. "So, giving Ruben a chance to reestablish himself as an everyday player isn't such a bad thing."
The Mets and D-Backs talked earlier this week, but they did not find any common ground (Rubin, Dec. 12). Arizona has shortstops Didi Gregorius, Chris Owings and Nick Ahmed, all of whom are top infield prospects, as well as Cliff Pennington, who is under contract through 2014.
The Rangers are willing to move SS Elvis Andrus, but only for a big return (Rosenthal, Dec. 11). Similarly, the White Sox have been listening to offers for SS Alexi Ramirez since last summer, but they've yet to hear the right offer (Cerrone, Dec. 12). Also, the Indians are reportedly listening to offers for SS Asdrubal Cabrera (Rosenthal, Dec. 10), but the Mets are not interested (Sherman, Dec. 10), because Cleveland is looking to acquire a top-tier pitching prospect.
