Brown is hitting .367 with a 1.062 OPS, two homers and 27 RBIs in 98 at-bats with Triple-A Las Vegas.
Brown is not on the 40-man roster.
The Mets have an open spot on the 40-man roster right now, so the Mets wouldn't have to designate anyone for assignment for Brown. This is a logical guess, but it would make sense for the Mets to send the struggling Collin Cowgill to Triple-A for Brown. While Marlon Byrd is struggling, Cowgill is struggling more and Cowgill has an option to burn in 2013.
I would have expected them to use that 40-man roster spot for someone like Omar Quintanilla, as they currently don't have a true backup shortstop on the roster. And, from what I saw of Brown during camp, his defense left a lot to be desired in the outfield. At the same time, I wonder if the Mets would consider using Brown at first base on occasion as well, especially against left-handed pitching since Ike Davis is hitting .138 with a .435 OPS against lefties so far this season...
