Now Commenting On:

Cesar Itzuris' agents are expected to meet with the Mets during this week's MLB Winter Meetings, according to a report from Adam Rubin at ESPN New York.

The 32-year-old Izturis, a switch-hitter, hit .241 with 2 HR and 11 RBI in 166 at-bats for the Nationals and Brewers last season, during which he played first base, second, third and shortstop.

The Mets need to find depth on the infield, especially at second base and shortstop. The recently traded for Brandon Hicks, who can do this, but probably won’t be guaranteed a roster spot in camp, though I’m sure he’ll compete with other players for a spot on the team’s bench. Still, I would like to see the Mets find a more established utility player, like Ronny Cedeno was last season.
