"There has been much recent talk between the Mets and Brewers," a source told the NY Post's Mike Puma (July 29, 5:40 pm).
The Mets believed they were close to a deal for Brewers OF Gerardo Parra before it fell apart last week, sources told Newsday reporter Marc Carig (July 25, 2015). "The Mets offered a pitching prospect the Brewers had asked about previously," according to Carig, "but the interest in Parra is now to the point where the Brewers believe they can do even better."
CBSSports.com's Jon Heyman recently reported that the Mets, Angels and O's were interested in Parra (July 28, 12:00 pm). However, the Angels have since acquired two outfielders and reports indicate the Orioles may be buyers not sellers. The Astros and Giants had also been connected to Parra.
Milwaukee was seen scouting Brandon Nimmo, Michael Fulmer and other Mets minor leaguers in early July, according to MetsBlog's Matthew Cerrone (July 21, 2015).
In talks for Brewers OF Carlos Gomez, the Brewers want 'a lot of players,' a source familiar with their thinking recently told Cerrone (July 29, 11:00 am), which is probably why a team source is on record saying Milwaukee may not be serious about moving him (July 28, 3:50 pm).
Gomez, 29, who is represented by Scott Boras, will earn $3-4 million through the end of this season and $9 million in 2016, after which he can be a free agent.
Parra is due roughly $3 million the rest of this season, after which he can be a free agent.
