"To make a guess, I wuold say that nothing will happen," the GM said (DiComo, July 28).
The Mets have reportedly been shopping Bartolo Colon and Daniel Murphy, while also looking to acquire an outfield bat or shortstop upgrade.
New York has reportedly seen little interest in Colon, who could be dealt during August, even though he would have to pass through waivers (MetsBlog, July 24). The team is even willing to contribute to some of the $2 million he is owed the rest of the season (MetsBlog, July 25).
This doesn't surprise me. He manages expectations incredibly well -- maybe too well, actually.
To refresh your memory, he also said it was unlikely he would trade Carlos Beltran, unlikely he'd trade RA Dickey and unlikely he'd release Oliver Perez, Luis Castillo and Jason Bay. I'm not saying he is likely to make a deal this week, because I actually don't think he will, based on what I'm learning about the market place. I just think you should take what he says with a grain of salt.
