Puma says the Mets are concerned about the hole trading Murphy would create at second base, as the team doesn't view Jordany Valdespin highly.
I believe Murphy is more valuable to the Mets than to other teams right now. Ultimately, Murphy might be more of a utility player. The name of Murphy's game is offense, and the hope is he doesn't negate his offense with poor defense. Yes, he made strides at second base this past season, but as he put it to me back in Spring Training, he is an offensive oriented player. The thing is, he doesn't provide enough power to be a full-time DH in the American League, and a lot of teams already have a utility-like player as Murphy projects. For now he fits well enough at second base to fill the Mets' needs as they attempt to upgrade other areas of the roster.
