The Mets signed former Mariner and Yankee RHP DJ Mitchell to a minor league deal, expect to see him in St. Lucie or LasVegas shortly.

Shawn Marcum threw in a simulated game this morning in St. Lucie and it looks like the Mets will give Marcum the start Saturday after not pitching in a real game environment in about five weeks. Building arm strength and facing batters is over-rated apparently, and when the alternative is Aaron Laffey how can you blame them...

Monday 6:00 ET – RHP Jacob deGrom (0-1, 1.13) vs. RHP Brandon Workman (3-0, 3.00)

In three starts this year Jake deGrom has struck out 21 and walked 3 over 20 IP. His AA debut against Portland was stellar, going 8 IP striking out 8, with just 3 hits and a walk costing him 1 run and the L.

Brandon Workman opposed deGrom and went 7 inning of shutout ball on 4 hits and no walks, 9 K. On the year he has struck out 25 and walked 2 over 18 IP. John Lackey and Franklin Morales will make rehab appearances for Portland tonight. After taking two out of three in Binghamton, Portland won three of four against New Britain.


A+: St. Lucie Mets (11-6) @ Charlotte Stone Crabs (7-10) ListenMonday 6:30 ET – RHP Marcos Camarena (0-1, 8.31) vs. RHP Jesse Hahn (0-0, 1.00)

Injuries at the AA level have given Marcos Camarena the opportunity to start for St. Lucie. He gave up 4 runs on 6 H, 3 BB, and 0 K five days ago against Charlotte.

Jesse Hahn started that same game and struck out six while walking none and allowing a single hit. He has pitched 3 IP in each of his three starts, striking out 11 and walking 1. Jake Floethe (2-1, 4.97) has followed Hahn in each of his starts, striking out 9 and walking 2 in 12.2 IP.

A: Savannah Sand Gnats (9-8) off

The Gnats travel home to begin a home stand on Tuesday. They will host Delmarva (11-7) for 3 and West Virginia for 4 to wrap up April.

Nimmo, Boyd, and Plawecki are all in the top six in SAL batting average and OPS. Zurcher gives then 4 of the top 8 in league OBP. Not surprisingly the Gnats lead the league in team OBP and are second in batting average. Delmarva leads in batting average and sixth in OPS. The Shorebirds pitching is middle of the pack in the SAL with a 3.66 ERA and 1.35 whip with 7.9 K/9 while Savannah's staff has put up a 3.27 ERA, 1.20 whip, and 9.4 K/9 each good for the upper third in the league.
