The Brooklyn Cyclones kick off the 2013 season in Staten Island tonight, and will play their home opener tomorrow against the same division rival. Robert Gsellman struck out 6 over 6 IP in his last start, allowing 3 runs on 9 hits and 1 walk, pitching for Savannah on June 5th. He started the year with 8 K and 8 BB in his first four starts, but has struck out 11 and walked 3 over his last three starts. After filling in for St. Lucie and Savannah when a starter was needed, Gsellman now takes his planned assignment for the year, heading up the Cyclones rotation.
Two teams out of the playoff race wrap up the first half schedule before gaining a new life, and probably some new players too, on a playoff spot on Thursday. Roberto Gomez faced St. Lucie on April 23rd (6 IP, 4 H, 1 R, 0 ER, 1 BB, 5 K)
Matt Bowman reached the all star break without suffering a loss having struck out 65 and walked 12 over 68.2 IP across two A ball levels. On June 2nd in Charlotte he allowed 3 runs on 5 hits over 5 IP, striking out 2 and walking 1.
Jeff Manship allowed 1 run on 4 hits over 5.1 IP in his last start, striking out 4 and walking 3.
In two of D J Mitchell's last three starts he has allowed 5 walks, in the other he failed to make it out of the second inning. With the recent departures of Wheeler, Torres, and McHugh; Mitchell's rotation spot seems very safe for someone with an ERA over 8.
AA: Binghamton Mets (42-26) off
The B-Mets are 11-2 in June and have moved 6.5 games ahead of Portland.
A: Savannah Sand Gnats (43-26) off for SAL All Star Break
The first half division winners will have three days off before beginning the second half at Lexington on Thursday.
