Mitch Talbot threw 5 shutout inning for New Orleans on April 4th and then went on the DL until making two rehab assignments at the GCL level on July 27th and Aug 1st. In his last outing he was able to go 5 IP and faced 20 batters, so he should be able to give some length and limit the workload on the pen. A roster move will be needed to activate him, Matt Fox was recently put on the temporarily inactive list to make room for Mike Baxter.
Noah Syndergaard returns on nine days rest. He will likely remain limited as he prepares for a playoff start or two. He struck out 10 over 5 IP in his last start, clearly tiring.
Eduardo Rodriguez held Binghamton to 1 run on 5 hits and 1 walk, striking out 7 over 6 IP last Tuesday.
After losing 4 straight to Ft. Myers, St. Lucie's will try to stave off elimination with first place Charlotte coming to town. The Stone Crabs won in extra innings last night and are 6 games up on the Mets with 7 games to go. The Mets will turn to Domingo Tapia who has struggled with wildness all year. One bright spot was a start at Charlotte on July 9th when he struck out 7 and walked just 1 over 6.2 IP.
