Gio Gonzalez (18-7, 2.98 ERA) will start for the Nationals tonight.
Gonzalez allowed just three hits in seven shutout innings against the Cubs in his last start, earning his 18th win of the season and tying R.A. Dickey for the league lead. Over his last nine starts, Gonzalez is 6-2 with a 2.38 ERA and has allowed just four earned runs in his last four starts, a span of 27 2/3 innings. Gonzalez is 2-1 with a 3.94 ERA in three starts against the Mets this season.
McHugh has made one good start and one bad start for the Mets. In his first start, he had a hard curveball with great 12-6 action from the top of the strike zone to the bottom. He didn't quite have the same command of the strike zone with that pitch in his last start, instead leaving a lot of those pitches in the middle of the strike zone. It will be interesting to see what kind of adjustments he makes heading into this start - he is auditioning for a role on next year's team, so it's important for him that he makes those adjustments and finishes the season strong.
