Now Commenting On:

Mets rookie starting pitchers Rafeal Montero and Jacob deGrom will each start next week, as opposed to skipping someone with Monday's off day, Terry Collins told reporters on Friday.

“If they’re comfortable, I want to run them back out there," said Collins. "I don’t want to give them too much time off to where now they get back out there and everything seems strange.”

DeGrom pitched seven innings and let up one run in his big-league debut against the Yankees on Wednesday. Montero let up three runs in six innings in his debut the night before.

“There will be a lot of discussion about, ‘OK, who’s it going to be? Who’s going to be the fifth guy?’” Collins said about his rotation when Dillon Gee returns from the disabled list in a couple of weeks. “It will be fun, because they’re both very, very talented."
