Sandy Alderson said the Mets still have up to four issues to address on the current roster this winter (Brender).
The free-agent market is expensive and saturated with overvalued players. That said, the Mets have anywhere between $17 to 20 million left to spend this winter, according to reports. In order to fill the remaining holes on the roster, the front office will have to cut some payroll or off-set a new acquisition by trading a notable contract. This is partly why the Mets might be looking to move Daniel Murphy, Ike Davis and/or Lucas Duda, since they will earn a combined $7-11 million next season.
