Omar Minaya held a conference call today to update reporters on the Mets' injuries.

Minaya confirmed that the Mets will activate Angel Berroa.

Jose Reyes had "a good day today" in Port St. Lucie and is "showing much improvement" according to Minaya. Carlos Delgado is swinging the bat and fielding in Port St. Lucie and the Mets received a positive report on him.

An MRI on Carlos Beltran over the All-Star Break revealed the same bone bruise, but he is not yet running or hitting off a tee.

Fernando Martinez had an operation on torn cartilage in his knee two days ago, and Minaya does not expect him to return until September.

Minaya believes that John Maine could be pitching in game situations in a week to 10 days.

Maine threw in "a simulated session" today and felt fine.

Minaya said there's a possibility that Maine and Reyes can return this month. He said for certain that Delgado will not return this month, and that Beltran's status is unclear.

A reporter asked Minaya if today's reports affected his approach to the trade deadline, but I'm not certain what Minaya meant by his response. He definitely mentioned that he had a plan, and that he spoke to five or six other GMs today, and that there has been more activity on the trade market as the deadline approaches.

OK, the call is over and this is what I've got: The Mets got good news on Reyes, but he still needs to work on his acceleration and so is not ready yet. Delgado is progressing but is still a ways off. Beltran feels better, but he's only doing pool work and riding a stationary bike, so he's basically status quo.

Martinez had surgery and will need physical therapy and rehab before returning to the club. Maine could be making rehab starts within the next two weeks.

There was lots of information and, as with all injury reports, a lot of it was vague. The one thing that's certain is Angel Berroa is now on the team.
