Jon Niese threw a bullpen before Sunday's game, which went fine, according to Terry Collins.

Niese is expected to return from the disabled list for the team's second series post-All-Star break against the Seattle Mariners.

Niese was removed from his start on Friday, July 5 start after taking a line drive off his back in the first inning.

However, X-rays were negative and Niese was diagnosed with a simple bruise. He threw just 12 pitches and later told reporters he felt fine and would like to make two more starts before the All Star break.

“I didn’t want to be taken out,” Niese said. “I knew it was just a bruise. I wanted to stay in there.”
