The Mets have placed pitcher Jon Niese on the DL with a left shoulder strain. Niese was hit with a line drive in his last start and had to come out of the game. It's his shoulder that remains worrisome however as his velocity has dipped in recent starts. That hasn't affected his production as Niese's ERA remains at 2.96, the best on the Mets' staff.
To replace Niese on the roster, the Mets called up right-hander Buddy Carlyle from Triple-A Las Vegas. Replacing Niese in the rotation will likely fall to Dillon Gee, who is slated to come off the DL Wednesday to start against the Braves.
